Thai Panang curry is a sweeter Thai curry in our selection, with the taste of chilli and not so much the heat of it. This is usually made with a thicker consistency but can be made thin by adding in more coconut milk. It closely resembles a Thai Red Curry, but with a milder spice level and sweet undertones.
Our Thai Panang curry paste is made with 100% natural ingredients, fresh from local farmers in Thailand. The paste is so full of flavour that one pack is all you need for 8 servings. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians too!
The red chilli is used in a Thai Panang curry, the same as the Thai Red curry, however, it leaves the taste of chilli without the heat! Compared to other traditional Thai curries, the Panang is the sweetest because less chilli is used in the creation of the paste and also when combined with coconut milk, it adds to its mildness without taking away any flavour.
This is because the paste is made from 100% natural ingredients, providing the true tastes of the herbs and spices found in Thai cuisine. You will find red chilli, shallots, galangal, kaffir lime rind, lemongrass, garlic, turmeric, coriander seeds, coriander root, cumin seeds, nutmeg, white pepper and rock salt in our Panang Thai curry paste.
Thai Panang curry originates from the central region of Thailand, dating back to 1890. The name of the dish translates to the Thai word for cross, in relation to sitting on the floor crossed-legged. In old Thai cooking style, they would cook a chicken by crossing the legs of the chicken and placing it upright, then they would smoother the ingredients of a Panang onto the chicken, along with coconut milk. A traditional Thai Panang curry is cooked with meat or poultry. However, a contemporary approach of a Thai Panang curry is seen to be cooked with seafood such as salmon, cod and prawns.
