Our Story

My name is Jatuporn, though everyone calls me "Jum." Growing up in the lush, tropical landscape of Southern Thailand, my childhood was surrounded by the vibrant colors and aromas of fresh herbs and fiery chilies, all thriving in our garden among the papaya, banana, and jackfruit trees. We lived in harmony with nature, harvesting what we needed and unknowingly reaping the benefits of Mother Nature’s bounty—nourishment, health, and healing remedies.

In 1992, I moved to the UK, bringing with me the rich culinary traditions passed down from my grandmother and great-grandmothers. As a proud mother of three, it’s always been essential to keep my children connected to their Thai heritage through the flavors and recipes I grew up with. Encouraged by my family, who might have been just as eager for the convenience of getting my curry pastes online as they were about sharing our culture, I began this journey with Mae Jum ("Mae" means Mother in Thai).

And so, the Mae Jum story began—rooted in love, tradition, and the belief that everyone deserves to experience the authentic tastes and healing powers of Thai cuisine.

Our Journey

Over the course of eight months, I traveled back and forth to Thailand, immersing myself in the world of food production. I visited suppliers, producers, and farmers, determined to stay true to Mae Jum's mission of authenticity while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. After much effort, I finally connected with a family-owned producer who truly understood my vision and agreed to collaborate with me.

Today, I’m thrilled to introduce our first products. The journey was more challenging than I anticipated, but with the unwavering support of my family, Mae Jum became a reality. Looking ahead, we have exciting plans to expand our range with new herbs and spice pastes. I’m also eager to share some of my favourite recipes with you. Learn more about  our approach.

Our Pastes

We take pride in creating our curry pastes with 100% natural ingredients, all carefully sourced from Thailand. Our pastes are crafted from a traditional recipe handed down from my mother, reflecting the authentic flavors you’d find in Thai markets. While shrimp paste is a common ingredient in Thai curry, traditionally added during cooking, we’ve chosen to exclude it from our pastes. This decision allows us to offer a completely natural blend of fresh herbs, spices, and a pinch of salt.

The result is an authentic taste of Thailand that’s also vegan-friendly and gluten-free, making it accessible to everyone. Explore our range of Thai curry pastes to bring these vibrant flavours into your kitchen.

Recipes & Tips

Discover some of my family’s favorite recipes here, and I’d love to hear your thoughts after trying them out! I’ll be adding new recipes over time, along with helpful videos to guide you in achieving the best results. While Thai cooking isn’t difficult, it does require a careful balance of ingredients—some of which might seem unusual together, but each plays a crucial role in creating authentic flavors.

Recipes will try to respect my Thai heritage so you can experience what it should really taste like and it could inspire you to adapt and create into your own dishes too. I can also show you how to include these pastes in dishes that are not curries, such as crab cakes, soups and BBQs. Take a look at all our yummy recipes and tips on our blog.
