A Thai Yellow curry has more turmeric than other traditional Thai curries, providing the dish with a vibrant yellow colour. Not only is Thai Yellow curry paste a beautiful well-balanced curry, but it also makes a perfect base for Thai soups such as ‘khao Soi’. 

The curry has a rich, bold taste, sweet with subtle hints of spices, and is effectively hot without being overpowering. Like our other pastes, our yellow curry paste is made with 100% natural herbs and spices, with no added artificial colourings or preservatives.

 

How it’s made

Thai Yellow curry paste more or less shares the same ingredient list with its cousins green and red curry, but turmeric is the star as it gives the all-important signature colour! We only use the finest herbs and spices and in our Thai Yellow curry paste, you will find turmeric, red chilli, galangal, lemongrass, shallots, garlic, kaffir lime rind, white pepper and rock salt.

We love a spicy Thai Yellow curry and this has a real kick of heat! Usually made with chicken, beef and vegetables like young papaya, sour pineapple and bamboo shoots and to be served with steamed Thai Jasmine rice, or Khanom Chin noodles.

Origin & Type

The consumption of spices is as old as civilisation. Yellow curry “Kaeng kari” is no doubt the one that resembles the most Indian traditional four-spices curry with the addition of the lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and coconut milk. The turmeric in a Thai yellow curry is the vital ingredient that makes the curry yellow. 

Chicken is commonly used in a Thai Yellow curry, along with the paste being blended with coconut milk. Yellow curry paste is also versaille to be made as the base of soups. But also perfect with seafood or a selection of vegetables.

I ordered 3 packs of the Jungle Curry paste and this stuff is the real deal. I’ve managed to make jungle curry taste like when I had it in Thailand. Warning - this paste is very hot. I’m no stranger to spicy food, having a pretty good tolerance, but this stuff is potent. You may wish to not use the full sachet the first time you try it.
